What others are saying about EnglishConnect

Elias.jpg
“It was a dream for me to speak English, but I didn’t have any hope that I could learn it. I started in EnglishConnect 1 in 2018. I’ve continued to study and everyone says that my English has improved so much. For me, it’s a miracle. In EnglishConnect, I found hope.”
Elias Gleizer, Brazil

"EnglishConnect has not only taught me English, it has taught me about responsibility, commitment, and how to be an agentive learner. It has even given me much more confidence than I had before. I’m really glad and proud of the results."

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which level to attend?
  • EnglishConnect 1: You can read and write in your native language and read basic English words.
  • EnglishConnect 2: You can read basic sentences and ask and answer simple questions in English.
  • EnglishConnect 3: You have basic reading, writing, listening, and conversation skills in English and can achieve an intermediate-low score on the placement assessment at registration.
How do I prepare for my conversation group?
Each lesson in the EnglishConnect learner manual is divided into two parts: 1) Personal Study and 2) Conversation Group. The Personal Study section prepares you for your Conversation Group. It includes a principle of learning to study, vocabulary to memorize, and sentence patterns to learn.

You can also use the EnglishConnect workbook and website to practice English daily. Consistently using these resources will help you learn English faster.
How can English skills help me?
Better English skills can expand your opportunities for education, employment, and service.
  • Education: Access educational opportunities like BYU-Pathway Worldwide
  • Employment: Qualify you for better jobs.
  • Service: Expand what you can do for others. For example, you could serve as an EnglishConnect 1 or 2 teacher to help others learn English.
How do I join EnglishConnect?
Below are the links to find and join a group:
How long is each level?
EnglishConnect 1 and 2
Most groups meet once or twice a week, but lessons are written so groups can meet more frequently if desired. There are 25 lessons in each level and each lesson lasts 60–90 minutes.

EnglishConnect 3
Groups meet once a week. There are 14 lessons and each lesson lasts 90 minutes.
What materials do I need?
  • EnglishConnect 1 for Learners and EnglishConnect 2 for Learners: Use these manuals to prepare for and participate in your conversation group. You can access learner manuals in the Gospel Library app or order them at store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org (item numbers 14701 and 14703).
  • EnglishConnect 1 Workbook and EnglishConnect 2 Workbook: EnglishConnect 1 and 2 groups each have their own workbook. Use the activities in these workbooks on your own or with a partner as additional practice outside your conversation group. You can access workbooks in the Gospel Library app or order them at store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org (item numbers 18489 and 19563).
  • EnglishConnect.org: The EnglishConnect website includes interactive practice activities for each lesson.
  • Gospel Library App: You can read or listen to talks, the Book of Mormon, and hymns in English.
  • Other Books and Apps: There are many resources to help you learn English. You should “seek … out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:118).
What if I have to miss a conversation group?
Let your teacher know if you need to miss a meeting and continue to move forward by preparing for the next lesson. If you can, review the lesson you missed or practice with a group member outside of the meeting. You will also have opportunities to review as you go along.
Can I repeat a level?
Yes. You can repeat any EnglishConnect level. Some learners will want to repeat a level to achieve their study goals or increase their confidence.
I did not get my certificate. What do I do?
